The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen is a popular amusement park in Almaty, founded in the 1970s as Starokladbischensky Park. The park, an 18-hectare green area, was renamed in 1942 in honour of Panfilov soldiers of the 1075 regiment of the 312th rifle division who bravely fought against the Germans in November 1941. The regiment, formed from Almaty and Bishkek natives, faced the enemy with incredible sacrifices and efforts. The park’s central granite triptych, “The Oath,” honours the young Kazakh warriors who fought for Soviet power, while “The Feat” reflects the international images of Panfilov’s guardsmen. The Memorial of Military Glory features obelisks with the names of the 28 Panfilov’s heroes and an eternal flame in its centre. The park also houses historical buildings, such as the Ascension Cathedral, the Museum of Folk Musical Instruments, and the Officers’ Club, each associated with a separate story.
