Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Yerevan

Upon arrival in Yerevan, a representative of our company will welcome you, and you will be transferred to the hotel, where the rest of the day is free for you to explore. Then return for an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 02: Yerevan City Tour- Garni and Geghard

(You will visit the Tsitsernakaberd Genocide Memorial and Museum, the Mother Armenia Monument, the Park of Victory, the Cascade, Republic Square, Garni, and Geghard.)

Following breakfast at the hotel, we will begin our tour with “Mother Armenia,” a feminine representation of Armenia. Her most visible visual representation is a colossal statue in Victory Park that looks over Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

Afterwards, we will go down the enormous Cascade stairway to the Matenadaran, an archive for historical manuscripts that also serves as a study centre and museum in Yerevan, Armenia. It houses one of the richest collections of mediaeval manuscripts and books in the world, covering a wide range of topics like history, philosophy, medicine, literature, art history, and cosmography in Armenian and many other languages. From there, we will continue to the Opera House and arrive at Republic Square via the pedestrian route along North Avenue. After we visit the President’s residence, the National Academy, and Parliament House, we will continue our journey to Tsitsernakaberd, a monument for genocide victims.

The Garni Fortress is located in the Kotayk District, in the village of the same name. A stronghold was well-known from the records (Cornelius Tacitus, Movses Khorenatsi, etc.). A combination of national and Hellenistic characteristics can be seen in the construction of Garni, which is proof of both ancient influences and the unique building customs of the Armenian people. The creative value and uniqueness of its monuments make Garni among the top architectural works in the entire world. The temple was constructed in the latter part of the first century B.C. and was devoted to a pagan god, most likely Mitra, the sun god, whose statue stood in the depth of the sanctuary.

The monarchs used the temple as a summer retreat after Christianity was established as the official state religion of Armenia in 301. It is called “a house of coolness” in a chronicle. The Azat (Garni) River and its confluent Goght are divided by Garni Canyon. The gorgeous natural rocks of the canyon, which are composed of regular hexagonal cylinders, add to its appeal. These rocks are present from the canyon’s lowest point up to its highest point. “Basalt Organ” and “Symphony of Stones” are the names of the composition. The “Symphony of Stones” is listed as a natural landmark.

After that, we visit the Geghard Monastery. Geghardavank is, also known as Ayrivank, a cave monastery. The main church in Katoghike was erected as a domed hall around 1215. In 1225 and 1230, the narthex was connected from the west. The remaining parts of the monastery were carved out of solid rock under the control of father and son Proshians/Khaghbakyans. In 1282, the first church was carved out by the architect Galdzak. The narthex and the second St. Godmother church were built in 1283. Another rock-carved structure, the mausoleum of Papak and his wife Rousukan (1288), can be spotted on the second floor. Then return to the hotel to relax for the night.

Day 03: Tsahkadzor Lake Sevan Dilijan

Breakfast at Hotel Tsaghkadzor means “valley of flowers” or “flower canyon” in Armenian. With more than a dozen ski routes and an exceptionally large chairlift with 5 stations, the town is well-known as a major international tourism and skiing destination. Located on the western side of Mount Teghenis, 1966–2819 metres above sea level, is the armchair ropeway of Tsaghkadzor. We will ride the ropeway here to the Kecharis monastery. The Kecharis Monastery, a mediaeval Armenian monastery complex from the 11th to the 13th century, is situated near the Armenian ski resort town of Tsakhkadzor, 60 kilometres from Yerevan. After that, we will carry on with our tour to Lake Sevan.

The pearl of Armenia, Lake Sevan, is located in the northeastern part of the country at the height of 1900 metres above sea level. Many experienced travellers claim that the Sevan is the highest-mountainous and most beautiful lake amongst other mountainous lakes worldwide, where we will visit the Sevanavank church. The Sevanavank Monastery is located in the Gegharkunik area, which is well-known in Armenia for being home to the “blue pearl of Armenians,” Lake Sevan. The Sevan Peninsula is home to two churches. These churches, which were constructed in 874 AD, comprise the Sevanavank Monastery.

Then, we will visit Dilijan, regarded as the “Switzerland of Armenia.” It is a mountain region. Dilijan boasts a beautiful landscape along with a pleasant climate. The town is surrounded by rich oak and hornbeam woods, and distant snow-capped mountains provide more than enough natural beauty to inspire creative thoughts. In the summer, residents harvest mushrooms and mountain herbs from the abundant forest areas while herding cattle through the town from the mountain pastures. There are many steep tiled roofs and wooden beams in the local architecture, as well as several adorable gingerbread-style buildings to explore. Then return to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 04: Departure

After breakfast at the hotel, check out later and make your way to the airport in time for your departure.

Armenia’s history and culture

Armenia, which lies tucked between Asia and Europe, has a lengthy and illustrious history. Its cultural legacy is a tapestry made up of the imprints that numerous civilizations have made on the landscape. Armenia’s past, which included ancient kingdoms and Soviet influences, has moulded its distinct character. The nation is well known for its monastic communities, churches, and historical landmarks that offer a window into its illustrious history.

History: Since Uratu (Ararat) was established in the ninth century B.C. by the fabled national hero Aram, Armenia’s history has been characterised by invasion and foreign control. People from Armenia were referred to as Armens or Armenians. In 612 B.C., the Medes invaded the region; in 331 B.C., Alexander the Great and Persia were subdued; and Armenia had freedom until it was subdued by Syria in 212 B.C. Tigran the Great founded an Armenian state in 95 B.C., but the Romans overcame it in 66 B.C. Tiridates III emancipated Armenia in 286 B.C., and it went on to become the first Christian state in history. Through centuries of invasion and separation, Christianity gave Armenians a sense of national identity and awareness.

In 387, Armenia was split between Byzantium and Persia. In 450, the Persian ruler ordered all Christians to convert and used an invasion by a sizable Persian army to carry out his orders. After more resistance from the Armenians, a new Persian emperor fully tolerated Christianity in 484. In 806 the Armenian monarchy was restored, and the Bagrantuni dynasty ruled during a prosperous time in the ninth and tenth centuries. In the 16th century, Ottoman Turks and Persians fought for the region, and in 1639, they split Armenia between themselves. In 1828, the Russian Empire finally conquered the Persian portion.

In 1894–1896, 300,000 Armenians were slaughtered by Muslim Turks who viewed the substantial Christian population in the eastern portion of Turkey as a subversive danger. Armenia served as a battlefield for battles between Turkish and Russian troops during World War I, but the country was unable to defend its boundaries from the Red Army’s incursion in December 1920, which restored Russian dominance. The regions of Kars and Ardahan were taken from the western part of Armenia by the victorious Turks in the war between Turkey and Greece (1920–1922), whereby Turkey allied with the Greeks. Among the “Oriental Orthodox” congregations is the Armenian Apostolic Church, which is also known as the “Armenian Apostolic Church.” Mekhitar established the Armenian Catholic Church in 1701, and the Ottoman Empire acknowledged it in 1831. There are 3.6 million people living in Armenia, and 96% of them are ethnic Armenians. The remaining population is made up of Kurds, Yezidis, Russians, Jews, Assyrians, and Greeks. The bulk of them reside in cities, with roughly a third doing so in Yerevan.

Culture: Armenia has a wide variety of cultural events, including tiny paintings, sculptures, engravings, and carpet manufacturing. From the ninth to the sixth century BC, Urartu, the Kingdom of Van, served as the birthplace of Armenian culture, promoting advancements in decorations, canonical style, metallurgy, and expert stonework. Swords, containers, helmets, and jewelry items made of fine bronze are exceptional examples of Urartian art. The historical and cultural legacy of Urartu is on display in the nation’s capital at the History Museum of Armenia. A substantial source of information regarding Armenian music, theater, ethnography, and crafts may be found in Armenian book miniatures, which date back to the seventh century. The Matenadaran is home to more than 23,000 manuscripts and 300,000 historical materials, making it the world’s greatest archive of Armenian manuscripts.

Since ancient times, traditional Armenian dance has been a vital component of the country’s identity, bringing people together to celebrate culture, connect with one another, and honor their heritage. Rock paintings of dance scenes seen in Armenia’s highest regions, including Ararat, show how the civilization has changed since before Christianity. The Armenian National School of Music’s founder, Komitas, held the view that dancing reveals the specific qualities of each society, notably its manners and degree of civilization. The musicologist has preserved descriptions and instructions for historic Armenian dances and has restored eight folk dance songs.
