Mtskheta is one of the oldest cities in Georgia, once serving as the first capital of the early Georgian Kingdom and remaining the headquarters of its Georgian Orthodox Church. Home to many significant historical monuments and cultural sites, Mtskheta is sometimes referred to as “Second Jerusalem”. The city, just a short distance from Tbilisi, lies at the confluence of two rivers- Mtkvari and Aragvi and is surrounded by rocky mountains. A tour around Mtskheta will allow you to discover its oldest architectural places like Svetitskhoveli Cathedral – the biggest in town, built in the 5th century. Inside this UNESCO world heritage site, you’ll witness countless treasures and relics of the Georgian Orthodox Church. According to legend, a Jewish man named Elias had brought Jesus’ robe back from Jerusalem when Jesus was crucified. When his sister Sidonia touched it she immediately died. Still, her grasp couldn’t be removed from it so she was buried with it at this very spot which ultimately became known as Svetithkhovelli Cathedral. And upon reaching Jvari temple you are bound to be mesmerized by its splendour so much so that it can be regarded as an immortal symbol national genius since 1994 when Jvari became a World Heritage Site.

But right now, this is how it works in Georgia, and you can stay there as long as you want if you have the proper documents.
Tourists from over 65 countries are eligible to receive a 30 to 90 days tourist e-visa, which you can get online before you reach Georgia. For your visa processing to Georgia, you must have a valid passport if you are staying for a longer duration. You are also required to produce proof of insurance for your period of stay and evidence of your return airfare.
